Rationale
After research, it was found that there is a
senior group in tourism area faces the safety and health issues. According to
deeper research, it is said older tourists tend to prefer guided tours due to
the health. As older age brings reduced mobility and muscle strength, impaired
sight and hearing, the old will face a series of problems during the travel. So
the pace and scope of a tour requires careful considerations. Also, keep them
take medication on time is quite important to ensure their health.
In this background, my concept is an
assistant device provided by travel agency or the tour guides that can help the
tour guide take care of the older tourists. The main functions are locator,
speaker, flashlight, reminder and emergency call. The system of the “seni-tour
assistant” will be set and controlled by tour guide’s iPhone app. By using this
assistant, tour guide can control the location of tourists then to control the
pace. Older tourists can hear clear introductions and orders by adjust the volume
of the speaker. They can get better sight in the dark just pressing the light
button. They can be reminded the time to take medication during the tour. At
last, seniors can get immediately help by using the emergency button, which
will show emergency contact number on screen and ring the tour guide’s iPhone
at the same time.
This product is decided to design as a
wristband. The silicone band makes it is comfortable to be wear day and night. Adjustable
length of the band makes it suitable for any gender and size. Symbolic patterns
are used to make the buttons simple and easily understand the function. Buttons
are designed as large and easily press as possible in case the senior have
arthritis problem. In addition, interface of the system also designed with
simple icons to ensure it is easily understand for senior users.
